I’m a Southern Belle and a Kentucky Colonel (kind of like the guy on the KFC sign, but without the goatee and super cool bow tie) living in Altrincham (Manchester), UK and I’m so glad you are here.

I’m a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist with a passion for relaxin’, making corny jokes, and helping people feel better.

As unfair as it is, I’ve not got any real chicken cred and I can’t get you a free 14 piece party bucket, but I can show you how to get your subconscious to work for you, rather than against you. Maybe quite not as delicious, but a bit healthier.

✨Oh Stress. If you are like me, you've tried everything to get rid of it. Thing is, it doesn't go away! But you can train your brain to perceive it differently.

✨You have undoubtedly heard of the fight or fight response. First described by Dr. Walter B. Cannon at Harvard Medical School in the 1920s, the fight-or-flight response evolved as a survival mechanism. People have always told me to, "be myself". But I could never really figure out what that meant.



There was often a caveat to this remark, and it was usually, be yourself - but don't rock the boat. Don't make people uncomfortable. Be NICE.



It's a pretty complex thing, this being yourself, if you think about it. Shouldn't being ourselves be easy?



It isn't actually.



The problem is that we mostly run on subconscious programming. And most of our learned behaviours were an adaptation to our past environments. We learned ways to behave that ensured our ability to fit in, please others, or to survive.



But this isn't necessarily who we are. Sometimes who we really are makes people uncomfortable. And you know what? That's OK!



What's not OK is hiding your light and what makes you special, because not only does it destroy you to do that, but it keeps your gifts from other people who need you to be you.



For me it was always about trying to please other people and making sure no one found out that I was a great big weirdo. I wanted to fit in. So I was being a version of myself, but not my authentic self.



I've learned that this was actually my subconscious programming, and through hypnosis I was able to change those subconscious programs, bring them into awareness, and let my freak flag fly.



Being who we really are is in essence being certain of our principles, and staying true to those, and sometimes we make waves and cause a little bit of good trouble. As John Lewis, the late, great civil rights activist once called it, "necessary trouble".



So let's get out there and cause some trouble.

Yes, I’m wearing gloves at the beach. I live in the UK, it’s cold here! 🥶
 
🙋But did you know that one of my favourite forms of exercise is sitting on a beach? Yeah OK I know, I know, that’s not “exercise”, but did you know that doing nothing is actually healthy?
 
Here’s your excuse, I mean why you should do nothing.
 
✨When you turn off the distractions, you make space for your subconscious to expand. And when your subconscious expands, you can boost your creativity. ✨When we are distracted, our mind jumps to the obvious answers when trying to solve problems. But once you take the time to check out, you end up thinking of inventive answers that can lead to some life-changing ideas.
 ✨Checking out also helps you check in. When you’re constantly buzzing about, checking off your to-do list, you are ignoring your inner voice. But when you start to quiet your mind you can start to hear what those gut feelings are trying to tell you. And that can motivate you to make new choices, or consider things from a different perspective. ✨Sitting with our thoughts makes us think about our larger sense of purpose, who we really are, and what we really want. And this can motivate us to try new things and engage in meaningful activities that extend beyond our own lives.
🌟I know what you might be thinking, “but I have so much to do.” It might just feel irresponsible to sit on the sofa while there are dishes to be done, I sometimes feel bad too, but here’s a pro tip.
🌟You can fix this with a change of mindset. Instead of seeing it as being lazy, think of it as investing in your own wellbeing. Because that’s exactly what it is. 🌟Start with some baby steps, no need to jump headfirst in to the lazy lifestyle. Start with five minutes at the same time each day. If your mind starts to turn to that email you forgot to send or that nightmare woman at work, don’t worry. Totally normal and it will fade over time. And after a week or so, doing nothing will become your favourite new exercise too. Yes, really.
So go onward my productive friends, and do nothing for yourself: Just. Do. Nothing.

😲Did you know that the average adult laughs 17 times a day while a child laughs 300 times a day?

🤣Humor is healthy! Finding humor and laughter in stressful situations can give us a sense of perspective on our problems. And it’s good for our health.

🤣Seriously! Laughter causes the release of beta-endorphins in the hypothalamus, which leads to the release of nitric oxide, which dilates the vessels. But wait, there’s more!

🤣Nitric oxide protects the heart by reducing inflammation and preventing the formation of cholesterol plaques.

🤣Laughing is way more than just a response to something funny, it evokes a physical response.

🤣Laughing exercises several muscles in the body, including your abdomen, back, shoulders, and facial muscles. Not only that it’s a great workout for your respiratory system!

🤣And just like physical activity, such as running, which increases endorphins released by your brain, laughter has the very same effect on your body.

I think It’s time to play more and adult less, don’t you?

Emodiversity.

It’s not a sad boy band from the noughties, but it would have made a great name.

I was looking at this photo of me on holiday from a couple of years ago and thinking, “oh, I wish I were on holiday again, look at how happy I am!”

But even though I can’t jet off to Spain right now, I can embrace the fact that maybe I just feel OK. And you know what? It’s OK to feel OK.

Emodiversity is really just the acceptance of a full range of emotions like anger, worry and sadness.

And it turns out that people who embrace this concept are actually healthier than those whose range tends to be mostly on the positive side.

Studies have shown that “people high in emodiversity were less likely to be depressed than people high in positive emotion alone.” and those with greater emodiversity used fewer medications, didn’t go to the doctor as often, exercised more, ate better, and had all-around better health than those with more limited emotional range.

Another study found that those who are consistently on the high end of the happiness curve tend to be less flexible in adapting to challenging situations; they have a harder time adjusting when things go south.

The take away is that when we try too hard to achieve max happiness we may actually be setting ourselves up for the opposite. It can even turn into a vicious cycle where the harder you try for happiness the more elusive it becomes.

So perhaps it’s better not to try so hard to be happy?

The key is to joy just comes from relaxing about life, accepting your gorgeous imperfections and moods, but naturally and truly appreciating the simple moments of well-being we find in our lives.

Solution Focused hypnotherapy trains your brain to focus on the positives, so you won’t miss the little moments. And as soon as your radar out for them you’ll see them everywhere.
